Mounting Tips
Please consider our wide selection of wood
to mount your air plants onto. Probably the
most popular wood we offer for this purpose
is Manzanita Burl Wood.
Mounting the air plants can be accomplished
through many ways. Nylon filament line can
be used to securely wrap the base of a small
plant to a branch or log, or wire can be
used for larger plants. Make sure, though,
that the wire used does not contain any copper
as this is toxic to bromeliads.
Silicone sealant is a great way to mount them, however you must be certain to allow the sealant at least 24 hours to cure before placing it in with your herps. A good rule of thumb is to smell the sealant. If you can still notice a vinegar smell then the sealant is not fully cured. Once the odor is completely gone you can introduce it to your environment.
Hot glue is another option when mounting plants to substrates that are not subject to swelling such as rocks or cork bark. Apply the glue to the substrate first, let it cool for 10 seconds, then firmly press the plant into it and hold until the glue cools completely.
Small bits of moss can be used to help conceal any mounting mechanics and will make the display look a little more natural. Be careful to not use too much moss, however, as water sitting around the base of the plant for an extended time will quickly make it rot. Keep this in mind as well when mounting plants in depressions on rocks or logs.
